Working with Washington wrongful death cases and severe Seattle auto accidents I have seen far too many young lives taken in preventable fatal auto accidents.
Early yesterday morning a Mason County single vehicle crash took the lives of three young men and sent two others to the hospital with serious injuries. Shortly before 3:25 a.m. on Sunday March 6th a 1990 Chevrolet Corsica missed a turn heading southbound on Highway 3. The Corsica ran off the road, crashed into a tree and rolled several times before coming to a stop. The accident occurred near Belfair, Washington.
The driver, a 20-year-old James Schuchard of Port Orchard man was transported to Harborview Medical Center via helicopter and 18-year-old passenger, Benjamin Blackburn, was transported to Mason General Hospital where they both remain in unknown condition.
Sadly, three other passengers in the vehicle died at the scene, 22-year-old Bryan Blackburn, 20-year-old Daniel Tedder and 20-year-old Tyler Jankunas.
The State Patrol is investigating the accident- and it remains unknown what caused the accident.
Our hearts go out to the friends and family of those killed in this horrible accident and we can only hope that the other two involved in the accident have a quick recovery without permanent injuries. While the cause of this horrible fatal auto accident has not yet been determined there are a few things drivers can do to protect themselves from being involved in a serious auto accident:
- Do not speed
- Follow all posted traffic signs
- Do not drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- And please do not drive distracted- cell phones, texting, changing the music on the IPod or stereo all can lead to serious accidents.
