This last week we have seen an unusual amount of sunshine for February – and to accompany that sunshine we have seen an unusual number of Motorcycle’s out on the streets and a high number of Seattle motorcycle accidents. In the last week; a female rider was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Marysville when she was struck by a pizza delivery driver, and a Shelton man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Lacey when a drunk driver hit his motorcycle head-on. And now, as a Seattle motorcycle accident attorney, I am sad to say another man has been critically injured in a Bremerton motorcycle crash.
On Wednesday February 11th a 55-year-old Bremerton man was riding his motorcycle northbound on Central Valley Road in Bremerton when he collided with a Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep was driven by an inexperienced 16-year-old girl who made a left hand turn in front of the oncoming motorcycle- leaving him no time to stop and avoid the collision.
The victim was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma with serious injuries. The SUV driver suffered no injuries.
Every one of these motorcycle accidents was caused by the negligence of another driver- the motorcycle riders were simply enjoying the nice weather, and had their lives dramatically affected. The truth of the matter is, motorcyclists are 16 times more likely to die in an auto accident than any other motorists simply because they do not have any protection in the event of an accident. As a rider- make sure you take the proper motorcycle training courses so you know how to deal with difficult situations. As a driver- make sure you watch out for your fellow motorists- pay attention to the road, don’t drive distracted or intoxicated and make sure you leave plenty of space between you and the vehicles around you.
