A Redmond wrongful death lawyer and Bellevue personal injury attorney deals with the most tragic of accident cases: fatal auto accidents and accidents that cause permanent personal injury. Most of these fatal auto accidents are caused by a disregard for common traffic laws and could be easily prevented.
Early Sunday, December 5th a fatal auto accident claimed the lives of two and left two others in critical condition. The fatal auto accident occurred just after 3 a.m. when a Chevy Malibu lost control on SR 516 just west of Meeker Street. The Malibu, driven by a 24-year-old woman struck a Honda Passport next to her, and a Honda Civic rear-ended the Passport shortly after.
The driver of the Malibu died at the scene along with the driver of Passport who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the car crash. A passenger in the Malibu, a 28-year-old male was taken to Harborview Medical Center and is currently in critical condition along with the 40-year-old driver of the Civic.
Police have reason to believe that not only were drugs or alcohol involve d in the car crash, but also that the Malibu and Civic were involved in a high-speed race down the highway at the time of the crash. The Passport was not believed to be involved in the racing and was simply an innocent bystander. The accident is still under investigation and it is unknown how fast the cars were traveling at the time of the accident. The driver of the civic is facing vehicular homicide charges, pending investigation.
Drunk driving and speeding are the top cause of fatal auto accidents with drunk driving causing 30% of all fatal auto accidents and speeding following closely behind at 25%. That means that if every driver chose to never drive drunk or speed we would save over 25,000 lives every year. I urge you to always have a safe and reliable means of transportation every time you drink- have a designated driver or take the bus or taxi.
