The dangers of driving are oftentimes forgotten, but as a Seattle car accident attorney working at a Bellevue personal injury law firm, I see the dangers of the road everyday. Car accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and when looking at the statistics of annual car accidents, this is not that surprising. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 6 million car accidents happen every year and 40,000 people are killed in fatal car accidents. Many are a result of irresponsible driving habits.
A Bothell man was killed in a single car accident on Sunday night, November 28th. Just after 9:00pm, 25-year-old Houman Attar was driving eastbound on Cathcart Way near Snohomish. As he approached Highway 9, his car slid out of control through the intersection and crashed into a tree after leaving the road. Attar was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers believe that the fatal car accident was caused by driving too fast for the conditions. With thousands of similar casualties every year it is important that we all take the steps to make the roads safer. There are many uncontrollable factors such as weather and obstacles, however, drivers do have the ability to exercise safer driving techniques by following a few simple guidelines.
- Observe traffic laws. Following the speed limit and reading traffic signs will play a large role in avoiding traffic accidents.
- Be observant. Be sure to know where you are in reference to other vehicles. Keep your distance from the car in front of you.
- Drive responsibly. Make sure that you are not intoxicated while driving. Always have a designated driver when drinking alcohol.
