A 69 year old man was driving his motorcycle East on Highway 14 late Saturday morning through the Wishram Curves. As he drove, he failed to complete a right curve. This caused him to cross over into oncoming traffic. He laid his bike down on the road and then ran into a semi-truck. He died at the scene. The investigation revealed that the motorcycle was being operated at an unsafe speed for the conditions. There were no drugs or alcohol found to be contributors to the crash. No one else was injured in the crash.
Our thoughts go out to the family in this difficult time. As a Seattle accident attorney, I know just how tragic a motorcycle crash can become. Unfortunately at times a motorcyclist can make one small mistake that proves to be deadly. An accident that would be merely frightening for the driver of a standard vehicle could result in very serious injuries for someone on a motorcycle. That is why it is so important for a motorcyclist to pursue further training and not ride beyond their skill level. It’s also important for drivers to be aware of motorcycles around you while you drive. Because of their small size, it can appear that motorcycles are moving much faster, or weaving in and out erratically, when they are really negotiating traffic in the safest way possible. It’s important to be alert at all times if a motorcycle needs to use an unexpected maneuver.
