With summer finally here, many motorcyclists are eager to hit the road. While I understand the excitement surrounding motorcycles, I must remind everyone that they can also be very dangerous. As a Seattle personal injury lawyer, I’ve seen many motorists seriously injured in all kinds of motorcycle accidents.
Earlier this week, an Idaho Falls man was killed in one of these horrible motorcycle collisions. The incident happened just after 5 p.m. on Old Highway 91.
Officials say 52-year-old Sandra Donato was traveling southbound in a 1999 Subaru Legacy station wagon when she attempted to turn onto the Interstate 15 on-ramp. Unfortunately, she collided with a northbound 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Barry McCarthy.
Unfortunately, McCarthy, 48, was not wearing a helmet at the time and was critically injured. He was taken to Portneuf West Medical Center, where he later died.
No one else was injured in this terrible wrongful death accident. We offer our condolences to the victim’s friends and family.
Whether you’re riding a motorcycle or a bike, it is extremely important to wear a helmet at all times. I cannot stress this enough. Studies have shown that helmets reduce the risk of serious injury and death by as much as 30 percent. It is one of the easiest ways to ensure a safer ride.
