There is a feeling of anger that comes over you when you’re cut off by another car while driving. There are inconsiderate and oblivious people out driving everyday. It’s easy to let out an unheard cry of annoyance, and then most of us just move on with our day and get over it.
In Spanaway, a 46-year-old man was placed in the ICU last Monday. What put him there? A brutal beating by a driver with horrible road rage. Scott Bradford was entering traffic from a Kmart parking lot just after 4 PM when he cut in front of another vehicle. Aggravated, the driver of that vehicle began tailgating Bradford, and did so for a mile, before Bradford decided to pull over to the side of the road to apologize and hopefully resolve the situation. Bradford approached the other driver and was almost immediately hit with a sucker punch. Several followed after Bradford was dragged to the side of his car, where the man also kicked him in the face. Luckily for Bradford, a Good Samaritan stepped in, and the suspect punched him and then quickly left the scene. It seems that, if not for the Good Samaritan, Bradford could have easily been beaten to death. His injuries are, nonetheless, substantial. He was expected to undergo facial reconstruction surgery late last week.
If you find yourself in a situation with a tailgater, do not attempt to make nice with them face-to-face. If you find it necessary, note the driver’s license plate number and safely make a call to highway patrol or non-emergency law enforcement.
