An accident that left 15 people injured, one with critical injuries, blocked traffic for over 15 miles of roadway on northbound I-5 south of Seattle today. A 25-year-old man was pulled from a car off the side of the roadway by firefighters. Five people were seriously injured and nine more sustained minor injuries.
The Seattle Times is reporting that officials have not released a cause for the accident. King County Metro is evacuating commuters affected by the accident. Lanes are gradually reopening. (Check a Seattle traffic report at mynorthwest.com.)
As a personal injury lawyer, I cannot stress the importance of defensive driving. The damp, foggy weather Seattle has been experiencing lowers visibility and requires longer distances for stopping. Allow sufficient space between you and the vehicle in front of you, and remember to not text while driving!
This is a developing story, and updates may be posted here throughout the day. I hope you and your loved ones stay safe on our roads.
