It’s always fun to take a new car for a spin. One driver took his fun a little bit too far in Boring, Oregon of all places. The 42-year-old from Battle Ground, Washington had just purchased a Chevrolet Corvette and decided to take a drive last night. He ended up running right into a power pole, bringing the power lines down and causing a huge power outage in Boring, effecting thousands of residents. The crash occurred a little after 9 yesterday evening.
Luckily for the driver, he surprisingly sustained no injuries. We cannot say the same for his precious new hunk of metal, however, which he had to sit in for over an hour after crashing because of the fallen power lines. Police have determined that he had been speeding and he has been cited for reckless driving.
Speeding is obviously very dangerous and can be deadly. But, your speed is something that you have complete control over on the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding played a role in 30% of all fatal crashes in 2011. Nearly 10,000 people died in speeding-related crashes that same year. Keep those statistics in mind the next time you consider speeding. Your life is worth more than being on time.
