As a Seattle pedestrian accident lawyer, I am devastated whenever I hear about a fatal public transportation accident. According to KOMO News, two separate Metro bus accidents occurred yesterday involving two pedestrians. The first collision happened at 8:30 a.m. as a pedestrian attempted to cross 3rd Ave. near Pine. The woman in this dangerous accident suffered injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening. The second accident involved a King County Metro bus at NE 10th St. and Northup Way around 6:30 p.m. According to the driver of the bus, a woman got off the bus and when he went to pull away he heard a “thump”. When the driver got out to check out the noise, he saw a woman on the ground and immediately dialed 911. Attempts to revive the woman failed and she was pronounced dead soon after the collision. Further investigation is pending in both bus accidents.
Public transportation related accidents are devastating events for the entire community. Even though accidents happen, it is extremely important for pedestrians to take extra caution when near the road, especially when attempting to cross the street. Pedestrians can be very difficult for vehicles to see and react to when not properly using a crosswalk or signal.
The death of a loved one or even serious personal injuries due to dangerous vehicle-pedestrian collisions are devastating and life changing events that can lead to various emotional stress. We wish a speedy recovery for the survivor of the first bus accident and our hearts go out to the friends and families of both victims involved in these accidents.
