As a Seattle auto accident attorney, I am an advocate against drinking and driving under any circumstances. Driving under the influence impairs judgment and motor skills that are necessary for operating a vehicle. According to King 5 News, an 18 year old has been charged with vehicular homicide due to drinking and driving that resulted in three deaths. The accident occurred on November 12th just after 12a.m. when the driver, Kaylea Souza, tried to pass a car and lost control of her vehicle. This caused the vehicle to run off the road and collide with a tree where the vehicle then burst into flames. The three passengers Marcel “Mick” Porter, Robert Knight and Charles “Mack” Porter all died as a result of the crash. Police reports have documented that Souza showed signs of alcohol impairment at the time of the accident. Souza, herself has claimed she may have had a few drinks. Official toxicology results are still pending. Teen drinking and driving is a serious problem that can happen right here in Seattle neighborhoods
Underage drinking is an increasing problem within our society. Educating teens about the potentially fatal consequences of drinking and driving is important. It is a very thin line between one too many drinks and yet that is all it takes to cause serious accidents.
