Jason Epstein created Teens Against Distracted Driving in an effort to help lower auto accidents and to educate others on how dangerous distracted driving can be. There are many of us who text and drive, but research has shown that teenagers are the most at risk when it comes to texting and driving.
“I wanted to put together an organization that would reach out directly to teens at an early age and get them to adopt the mindset to not text and drive,” said Jason.
A 2015 report from The National Safety Council estimates that 38,000 lives were taken on U.S. roads with 4.4 million being seriously injured. The NSC also estimate that 26% of all crashes involve the use of cell phones in auto accidents.
It’s important to understand that, when you text and drive, you are not just putting yourself at risk but you are also risking the lives of others.
“How do you get people to understand that you’re impacting multiple people on the road?” asked Peggy.
“It’s a great question and certainly one way is data. The data shows that the risks that one incurs when they’re texting and driving are greater than someone who is drinking while driving,” replied Jason.
