A car hit a man this morning while driving in the 9400 block of Airport Way South, close to Boeing Field. Fortunately, the bicyclist survived, but he is currently at Harborview Medical Center. When medics arrived on the scene, they performed CPR on the bicyclist. His injuries are serious.
It is unknown why the driver of the car, a Nissan Maxima, struck the bicyclist. He did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and was examined by a drug recognition expert. Investigators conducted an interview, but released the man. Investigations are still ongoing.
If you find yourself in a bike accident, it is important that you quickly take the following steps if you are injured:
• Write an account of the accident.
• See a doctor.
• Document your injuries.
• Report the accident to your insurance company if you intend to make a claim for the injuries you suffered.
• Contact a qualified injury attorney – consult one before reporting the accident to your insurance company.
Being in a bicycle accident is often a traumatic experience. You need to make sure that you are prepared to deal with any medical and/or legal matters that arise from your accident. Do not put any of the above steps off – the sooner you act, the better off you will be.
