If you plan to ride a motorcycle, please take safety precautions. Although motorcycles have a reputation for being dangerous, this does not mean you need to be a victim of a Seattle motorcycle accident. There are many ways to prevent collisions and stay safe. Unfortunately, when drivers fail to practice these safe driving methods, they suffer terrible consequences.

On Monday night, one Coeur d’Alene man was killed in a motorcycle accident along Interstate 90. The wreckage was discovered Tuesday morning around 7 a.m.

According to the State Patrol, Thomas Spencer was traveling eastbound when he lost control of his 2006 Honda motorcycle. Officials say he failed to negotiate a turn, crashing into a wire fence, power box and post.

In the impact, Spencer was thrown from his motorcycle and into a field near the Appleway on-ramp. He was later discovered dead by a semi-truck driver who immediately notified police.

Officials say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. They are currently conducting an investigation for further information.

Unfortunately, many auto accidents occur when drivers speed through sharp curves and turns. Failing to adjust your speed to road conditions can be deadly. We ask drivers to keep this in mind as they approach any hazardous areas along the road.

When riding a motorcycle please follow some basic riding guidelines: be aware of your bikes limitations, read your owners manual thoroughly to ensure you are operating your bike properly, maintain safe distances, execute extreme precaution, realize that drivers are often distracted and you need to pay more attention to what other drivers are doing, and wear protective gear and equipment- you should never ride without a helmet.
