It is tragic when drivers fail to see child pedestrians before the catastrophic car accident occurs. As a Washington car accident lawyer and a Bellevue personal injury attorney, I have seen far too many car accident cases involving minors. It saddens me knowing how easily some of these accidents could have been prevented.
On Monday, a 3-year-old girl was tragically hit and killed by a vehicle in the driveway of her home. The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. in University Place.
Before the accident, several children were playing outside the girl’s home. The mother’s fiancé preparing to leave for work, asked the kids to move out of the driveway so he could back up safely. All of the kids moved, except 3-year-old Sanius Marcus who rode her tricycle in front of the vehicle.
The 25-year-old driver of the SUV was unable to see the girl as he drove forward and hit the victim. The young girl was immediately rushed to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, Sanius died before arriving to the hospital.
Officials say it is unlikely the man will be charged as it was a tragic accident.
These accidents are fairly common and oftentimes, they occur very close to home. We will keep the victim’s family in our thoughts during this difficult time.
