The next time you take your dog or cat for a spin, there are some things you should keep in mind. Yes, the thought of fastening a seatbelt around your furry friend may be funny, but you do need to make sure that your pet is riding safely. How can you do that? It’s actually pretty easy.
First, do not let your pet ride in the front seat. As tempting as it may be to have them ride shotgun next to you, it isn’t safe. In case of an accident, your pet can easily be ejected from the vehicle, especially if it is sitting up front. Place them in the back seat. That way they are also safe from major injury in case of an air bag exploding.
Second, put them in a carrier. Nobody likes to keep their pet locked up, even if it’s just for a short ride, but it’s what’s best for them. If you do not use a carrier, use a harness and secure it to the seatbelt. It’s the closest thing you will have to a pet seatbelt.
Lastly, do not let your dogs put their heads out the window while in motion. Save the saliva splashing all over your freshly painted car and keep them inside the vehicle. There are too many things flying through the air that can hit your pet in the face, more specifically the eye.
We know you love your pets, so keep them safe! Taking these precautions can save their lives in case of a car accident.
