As a Bellevue car accident attorney and Issaquah personal injury lawyer, I cannot stress enough the importance of responsible driving. Approximately 30% of car accident fatalities result from drunk drivers. In 2008, drunk driving claimed the lives of nearly 12,000 U.S. citizens. Still, while the number drunk driving related accidents has decreased over the years, irresponsible drivers continue to drive haunt our streets with little consideration of the innocent lives they put in jeopardy.
Early Monday morning, on November 8th, a major accident unfolded with alcohol suspected as the primary cause. It was around 3:00 am when a White Ford Explorer was driving Northbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Seattle. The driver lost control and ventured off the road, driving onto the sidewalk at the 3900 block when it crashed into a bus shelter. After the glass had been shattered, the driver put his car in reverse and backed onto the street where he spun around and came to a halt. Paramedics transported the driver to Harborview Medical Center and treated him for life threatening injuries. The woman in the passenger seat of the Explorer only suffered minor scrapes and bruises.
Fortunately, no other people were injured in the incident, but this accident shows how dangerous drunk driving is. If encounter a possible drunk driver on the road, be sure to keep a safe distance away from the vehicle and dial 911 to report the situation.
